Understanding Your Heart’s Rhythm
An electrocardiogram, commonly called an EKG or ECG, is a quick and non-invasive test that records the electrical activity of your heart. EKG testing is now available directly at IMD Medical Clinic.
Your healthcare provider may recommend an EKG if you have experienced heart palpitations, chest discomfort, dizziness, shortness of breath or a heartbeat that feels unusually fast, slow or irregular. It may also be ordered as part of a broader medical assessment or to monitor an existing heart condition.
During the test, small adhesive patches called electrodes are placed on your chest, arms and legs. These electrodes record the electrical signals your heart naturally produces. The test is painless, does not involve needles and generally takes only a few minutes.
The recording can provide information about your heart rate and rhythm, including whether your heartbeat appears irregular. Your healthcare provider will interpret the results alongside your symptoms, health history and any other testing that may be needed.
We understand that any test involving the heart can feel intimidating. Our team will explain what to expect and help make the experience as comfortable as possible.
